New International Cooperation of the University North established through the ERASMUS+ KA103 Mobility

Associate Professor Petar Kurečić visited the University of Malta from April 4th to April 8th, 2019, performing the ERASMUS+ KA103 teaching mobility for the ongoing academic year. Prof. Kurecic was a guest of the Vice-Rector for International Cooperation and Quality Assurance, Professor Godfrey Baldacchino, one of the leading experts in small state research, with a special focus of his work given to small island states. Professor Baldacchino is also co-head of a UNESCO-funded co-chair established at the University of Malta and Prince Edward Island University (Canada), focused on island studies and sustainability.

During the visit, prof. Kurecic held several meetings, with Professor Lino Briguglio (Director of the Islands and Small States Institute), Dr. Kenneth Scerri (International Academic Coordinator, Faculty of Engineering) and Professor Martin Muscat (Department of Mechanical Engineering), as well as with Dr. Valentina Cassar (Faculty of Arts, Head of the Department of International Relations) and Dr. Angela Pennisi (Department of International Relations).

The meetings were also held with Dr. Gorg Mallia (Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, head of the Department of Media & Communications), Dr. Adnan Hadziselimovic (head of the Department of Digital Arts) and Matthew Galea (Department of Digital Arts), as well as with Professor Frank Bezzina (dean, Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy) and Professor Josef Bonnici (Department of Economics, former member of the Board of Governors, ECB).

Prof. Kurecic has presented the University North to the hosts and spoke about the possibilities of cooperation. The hosts have expressed strong interest in cooperating with the respective departments of the University North.

During the course of the visit, prof. Kurecic also gave a guest lecture to the students of international relations, addressing the influence of illegal migrations on the unity of the EU and the populist rhetoric on migration crisis of various EU member states' leaders.
